Features and performance enhancements of our lightened flywheel:

The original Porsche flywheel is ground from steel billet and weighs 5.26 kilos. This lightened flywheel, made from T6 6061 aeronautical quality aluminum alloy, only weighs 2.86 kilos. This amounts to a weight savings of 45% compared to the OEM part! Additionally, the use of aluminum confers the lightened flywheel much better mechanical and heat dissipation properties.

What is the advantage of a 45% weight reduction? The advantage is certain. An inertia which is 45% lower at the crankshaft end makes your engine work considerably less under load for a given power output, and allows your engine to directly transfer more power to the wheels, where it counts the most! Less inertia, a gain in usable power, greater and quicker engine response, with quicker accelerations, fuel savings, ...the advantages are many.

Jean Buser's lightened flywheel for your Porsche is a part made up of several components:  The flywheel it self is ground from solid T6 6061 aluminum billet. However, the flywheel friction plate is made up of incredibly strong grade 1050 heat treated steel. The friction plate can mate to every kind of friction material used in today's performance clutches: metal, carbon, kevlar, ceramic, ...The 1050 steel friction plate is able to withstand all these materials with outstanding durability, while retaining its grip under very aggressive driving.

The flywheel starter ring is also milled from 1050 steel, which gives it outstanding resistance against wear. Special aircraft grade rivets with a two step fastening process give our lightened flywheel a beautiful finish and impressive rigidity, as well as a very precise balance.

Caution:

We recommend that you inspect the surface of your flywheel every time you replace your clutch. A flywheel whose contact surface is worn or scored can lead to premature wear of your clutch disc and clutch slippage.
